Sue and Siegfried Othmer, from the EEG Institute, have been driven by their passion to address \u201cintractable\u201d brain-based problems with neurofeedback. Their clinical experience led them to realize that lowering the frequency range was necessary for most clients: the root issues are usually in the first stages of brain development when the central nervous system functions are being organized.<\/p>\n<p>The infra-low frequency reaches the physiological core of who we are, giving the brain a \u201csecond chance\u201d to self-regulate, especially when brains present extremely high arousal conditions: ADHD, bipolar, the autism spectrum, attachment issues and post-traumatic stress.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe infra-low frequency neurofeedback training is giving us preferential access to the network organization of emotional regulation, and concomitantly of autonomic regulation, and of central arousal.\u201d<br \/>\n-Siegfried Othmer, EEG-Institute<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Othmer method today is a combination of three powerful components:<\/p>\n<p>Classic frequency band training: The classic band training is clearly part of Cygnet and the Othmer method. Even if we work at very low frequencies, we use the dynamics of the feedback methods; in addition to that there are also many individual inhibits at work even up to 40Hz.<\/p>\n<p>ILF training: The effectiveness of the work in the field of Slow Cortical Potentials is now clearly established due to the many studies that have taken place in Germany in the recent years. We have empirically entered into this frequency range in the past years and have continually optimized the protocols.<\/p>\n<p>Bipolar training: Empirical studies have clearly shown that feedback to the brain on how the two regions work relatively to each other, is much more efficient than displaying only the activity of a single one. Most Othmer method protocols are based on bipolar placements.
